Through a cooperative agreement with the Western Virginia Water Authority (WVWA), Roanoke Gas constructed and now operates a state-of-the-art digester gas conditioning system and associated facilities (RNG Facility) that allows the Company to produce renewable natural gas from wastewater digester gas.  The RNG Facility was constructed in conjunction with the rehabilitation of the WVWA’s digesters, which collectively, is estimated to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 13,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalence on an annual basis.  The RNG Facility began producing renewable natural gas in March 2023.

The RNG Facility was constructed entirely on the existing property of the WVWA, which negated any negative impact on the local community.  In addition, the environmental justice communities located around the RNG Facility will be the largest beneficiaries of the emissions reductions.
